Mental Health Services

At Burleson Animal ER, we recognize that the wellbeing of animals is deeply connected to the wellbeing of the people who care for them. That’s why we are proud to offer integrated mental health support, not only for our clients and veterinary team, but also for members of the broader community navigating grief, stress, or personal mental health challenges.

Through our partnership with Sara Pollard, LMSW, under the clinical supervision of Angela Lutts, LCSW-S, we now offer on-site and Telehealth-based therapy tailored to both the emotional demands of veterinary medicine and the complexities of everyday life.

What We Offer

Sara provides individual and group support for:

• Grief and loss, including pet loss and anticipatory grief
• Veterinary burnout, compassion fatigue, and moral distress
• Executive functioning and ADHD-related challenges
• Adolescent identity development and family conflict
• Crisis recovery and emotional stabilization
• Therapy using CBT, DBT, REBT, and mindfulness-based approaches

Whether you’re facing a heartbreaking goodbye, navigating high-pressure decisions, or simply feeling overwhelmed, mental health support is available here in a setting that understands both human and animal care.

Services for Clients

• Grief-informed support during or after euthanasia
• Short-term therapy for emotionally intense visits
• End-of-life planning and anticipatory grief counseling
• Referrals for continued therapy beyond the ER experience

Services for Veterinary Professionals

• Confidential therapy sessions for staff
• Monthly on-site wellness workshops
• Post-crisis emotional debriefings (CISD/CISM integration coming soon)
• Preventative care to support long-term wellbeing and professional retention

Billing and Access

All therapy services are private pay. Sessions are managed through SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant platform that provides Good Faith Estimates, secure messaging, appointment scheduling, and intake forms. Clients may request a superbill for potential insurance reimbursement or deductible application, though services are considered out-of-network.

Setting a New Standard of Care

We believe emotional support should be part of emergency care. By embedding mental health services into our hospital, Burleson Animal ER is helping normalize care for every member of the human-animal bond—clients, staff, and community alike.
