After a brief investigation, prosecutors in the animal-cruelty division of the Harris County district attorney’s office filed animal-cruelty charges against 21-year-old Tristan Daniel Hancock and 44-year-old Elisha Gonzalez. They have not been arrested.

The dog, a chocolate Labrador named Bella, was found Oct. 4 on a “heap of filthy laundry” inside the house in the 200 block of Taranto Lane in east Houston.

Bella was found Oct. 4 on a “heap of filthy laundry” inside the house in the 200 block of Taranto in East Houston.  Authorities turned the dog over to the Houston Humane Society.

Monica Schmidt, a spokeswoman for the Houston Humane Society, said on Facebook that Bella was about 6 months old when she was found. She was underweight, suffering from multiple types of intestinal parasites and almost completely covered in mange.

“This is one of the most horrific cases of neglect I’ve seen in a long time,” Schmidt said. “It’s heartbreaking to see any animal hurt needlessly, and I cannot imagine how much pain and suffering she has endured already in her short life.”
